Masks, Horror, Haunted Places, and Gypsies

My Favorite West Coast Haunts

Spirits may appear anytime during the year – October most certainly brings out the best.  Why is it that we love to change our persona for a brief moment? Who am I? Where am I?

Gypsy in Venice

Autumn is my favorite time of the year and this is when I become the gypsy – tourist and explore around the corner locally!

A Vagabond Song by Bliss Carman

There is something in the autumn that is native to my blood –
Touch of manner, hint of mood;
And my heart is like a rhyme,
With the yellow and the purple and the crimson keeping time.

There is something in October sets the gypsy blood astir;
We must rise and follow her,
When from every hill of flame
She calls and calls each vagabond by name

Where are these West Coast Ghostly Places?

Spirits hang out around us, even though we don’t always see them.  Why are we so obsessed with these creatures?  Zombies, spirits, ghosts.

These are a few of my favorite haunted places on the west coast – and available to visit all year round. Be careful if you should go, don’t get spooked.  Please report back here with any spirit occurrences you may encounter.

San Diego, CA Ghost Tours

San Diego, CA Stay

Of course to complete the ghost experience in San Diego, why not stay at Hotel Del Coronado – historic, luxury, and ghosts! Be sure to tell us what you see or don’t see? Who is this ghost that keeps returning?

Medieval Villa in Ocean Shores, WA

Let’s go north to Washington State to find this perfect setting for Medieval times and castles with spirits for our encounters. This unusual medieval-themed villa property I found with the help of Tripping.com search.

The owners describe as “slightly haunted,” but with rooms detailed to make you feel like you’ve stepped through time and into a castle, it makes up for any extra scares – knights and dragons included!

Property description of this Villa is:

"Come ye, noble knights and graceful ladies and rejoice in reigning your own castle, slightly haunted, but with a royal touch! A one of a kind experience only steps away from the Beach, Convention Center and all City's Shops and Restaurants.

ShorebirdsVillas is comprised of six unique A-frame villas that circle a courtyard off a quiet cul-de-sac, ensuring the only street noise you’ll hear is that of crashing waves. When you’re ready for a night out, several of Ocean Shores’s best restaurants are less than a five-minute drive away."

Los Angeles, CA, brings us a trending exhibit to take a walk through American Horror Story (see video in this article) at Universal Studios Hollywood - Halloween Horror Nights in both Orlando and Hollywood.  Yes, the exhibit is in Orlando, Florida too.

South of San Francisco, CA Restaurant

Moss Beach Distillery – my favorite restaurant, with fabulous food, drinks, views.  Don't forget to keep the ghosts entertained while you are there too.

Is there a ghost in the window?

This time of the year brings a special spirit in the air with a gypsy in all of us as we are hustling and bustling with activities.  Whether your favorite is masks and costumes, horror nights, or haunted places, have fun!
